Ocean Grove, NJ: Tents (via)

These are one of the most-photographed things in Ocean Grove. Many years ago, this little tent colony numbered 600 tents around the auditorium area. Today, there are 114 tents. Many have been in the same family for years and years, and I’ve heard the waiting list to get one is impossibly long. These tents open around the end of May, and are closed up in September. Although most of the tents themselves were still up, many had been emptied, and will be taken down and stored in the next week or two.
They consist of a wooden platform with a large wooden room at the back, which contains a kitchen, bathroom, and sleeping quarters. The tent part is used as the “parlor”, and every tent has a small porch. Most have small gardens planted around the tent support, and individual decorating. I love seeing these tents.
